Dampwood Termites
These termites tend to infest wood witt a high moisture content. They can be larger in size than other termites. The queens grow to be up to five eights of an inch long, and have two pairs of wings equal in size and shape. These wing are longer than their abdomen. Nymphs grow up to five eights of an inch long, while worker termites grow to be up to three quarters of an inch long.
Drywood Termites
Drywood termites infest wood areas and therefore do not require to be in the soil.
Formosan Termites
These termites originated from China, and are known to be the most aggressive and deveious species of any other termite species. They are a subterranean species which grow to about half an inch in length.
Subterranean Termites
The termites thrive underground in colonies, where they survive in secluded areas. They can also survive in moist secluded areas above ground, with over 2 million members in the colony. They travel through mud tubes to their food source, also protecting themselves from the open air. These termites have a distinct ranked system, where they are divided into workers, soldiers and reproductives, with each their own characteristics. Worker termites are cream in colour and grow up to three eights of an inch long. Soldier termites are similar in size to workers, but have distinct strong mandibles. Soldier termites have cream coloured bodies and brown heads. Reproductive termites are bigger in size, up to one inch long.
